Welcome to the
Castlio Elementary
Virtual Learning Commons (VLC)

Our mission is to guide students and staff to be effective and ethical researchers and users of ideas and information. Our program promotes the love of reading and develops 21st century skills.

We envision a physical and virtual space where all learners discover, create, inquire, and think critically to produce and communicate new knowledge both independently and collaboratively.

· Provide quality assistance to students and staff in order to integrate knowledge with resources

· Provide curriculum-based print and on-line resources that are up-to-date and easily accessible

· Develop learning strategies and assessments to continuously improve learning

· Create innovative programs to encourage reading and learning

Learning Commons Book Collection Guidelines

FHSD Learning Commons have a broad selection of books, in print and online, available for checkout. You may see what we have to offer by clicking on the ‘Learning Commons’ tab on your school’s web page and then selecting ‘Find a Book.' Destiny, our library management system, will allow you to search the collection by entering specific book titles, authors, or subjects. You may see the E-book collection by clicking the ‘Follett Shelf’ tab and logging in with your student’s login credentials:

(Login: firstinitiallastnamelast3digitsofID# and Password: student’s ID#)

You may then search the E-book collection by searching in the same manner. We hope you will find that the Castlio Elementary Learning Commons collection offers engaging choices that will foster a love of reading in your child. If you have questions or concerns regarding specific items in the collection, feel free to contact Mrs. Bender at ann.bender@fhsdschools.org.

Please note: Our collection is created to meet the needs of a wide variety of readers at various maturity levels. Therefore, books designated as appropriate for Young Adult readers due to more mature content will have a YA sticker on the spine. The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) of the American Library Assoc.(ALA) defines a 'young adult' as someone between the ages of twelve and eighteen.

Our physical library is open on school days from
8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Our VLLC is open 24/7 with resources for students, staff and parents.
